About
I started trying to learn knitting after a dream I had in late 2006. This dream required me to make a very specific, very unique item (which I will not share for now), but I knew nothing about knitting. That is where it all began: an item which needed to be completed in order for my brain to be happy with itself.
A coworker tried to teach me to knit, but being a beginning knitter himself, there was only so much he could do. I struggled for a few months and then set down my needles.
In November of 2007 I decided it was time to try again. Having a fantastic idea and not being able to make it a reality is really draining. To get myself back in the game, I took a beginner knitting course at SewBeIt Studio. It was a fantastic experience, and allowed me to really learn the basics of knitting. It made sense! I tackled a few scarves and some swatches, and in February of 2008 I took a beginner hat class at Lettuce Knit. I knit my first hat, but found out that it was too small.
It is these little beginner frustrations and enlightenments which lead me to start this blog. Over the past few months I have explored many websites, talked to knitters who have been knitting for years, and read books which are either discouraging or incredibly helpful. I want to share these experiences with all the other shy knitters out there. Whether you’re as much of a newbie as I am, or you’re an expert trying to find new ways to explain things (for the third time?) to newbies, you’re welcome here.
I have many swatches to knit, many techniques to try, and lots of beautiful yarn which I have yet to touch.
Quickie:
I have never done anything crochet, but am not opposed to it and am willing to learn.
I am a math geek. If it makes mathematical sense, it’ll make more sense to me.
I’ll update once a week, likely on the weekend. More often if there is time or a lot going on!
I told myself that once I made the item I originally dreamed about, I would not have to knit again. However, I doubt I’ll stop, as I’m learning so much about myself by indulging in this quirky hobby.
